City of Bangor Diddy Meet @ Llandudno

logo-bangorCity of Bangor Swimming Club is again running its ‘Diddy Gala’ this year and entry is now open.

It will be held at the Llandudno Swimming Centre on Saturday 9th April 2016.

Some 30 Sharks took part last year and it was a great event.

It is classed as a ‘development meet’ so ideally suited to our younger swimmers, those new to swimming and those who don’t compete very often. Our more experienced swimmers can also enter though upper qualifying times do apply which might restrict eligibility but it’s a good chance to compete over your weaker  strokes/events.

The age groups are 9, 10, 11, 12 and 13 years (your age is determined as on 31 December 2016).

Events include 50m in all strokes and a 100m IM for all age groups.

The event pricing is £4.50 per event.

Our entry form is attached below.

Deadline: Completed form & full payment to Kevin on poolside or by email to kevin.owen@nfu.org.uk by Friday 26th February 2016 (8pm).

PS – We will need to provide 2 officials to help run the gala so volunteers from our qualified officials, time keepers and trainees greatly appreciated.

Medal Haul for Sharks

Club swimmers performed brilliantly across two weekends of swimming at the Swim Wales North Championships at Llandudno delivering a clutch of medal winning performances along with some impressive best times too.

The first weekend saw Deiniol Owen (12yrs) clinch the Clubs first medal with a Bronze in the 400m Individual Medley followed by a 5th place in the 50m Fly and finishing the day with a big personal best to finish 6th in the final of the 100m Free. 12705463_982794475090026_9105767658373060530_n

Tom Weaver (14yrs) took a closely contested 4th in the 100m Back and then a Bronze Medal in the 50m Fly whilst Carwyn Owen (14yrs) broke 3minutes for the first time to finish 4th in the 200m Breast. Two more medals followed with Silvers for Finlay Jones (12yrs) in the 50m Back and for Tom in the 50m Free. The first weekend finished when Deiniol narrowly missed out on another Bronze finishing 4th in the final of the 12yrs 100m Breast.

Sharks Medalists - Carwyn Owen, Tom Weaver & Deiniol OwenThe second weekend saw more medals coming Sharks way with Deiniol clinching Bronze in the 200m Breast whilst Robbie Marsden-Jones (11yrs) just missed out on a medal finishing 4th in the same event in his age group.

Kate Pugh (14yrs) swam a great 50m Free to break 30secs for the first time but missed out on a spot in the final by a fraction of a second. There were strong swims too from Megan Smith, Jamie Marsden-Jones & Elain Owen all of who will have benefitted from competing at this level.

A few more medals followed in the boys 14yrs 50m Breast with Carwyn dipping under 36secs to take Silver and Tom taking the Bronze.

Dyfrig JonesDyfrig Jones (11yrs) lowered his personal best in the 100m Back to finish 5th and went on to swim a great 50m Free finishing 4th missing out on a medal by a whisker but he did go on to win Silver with a fantastic performance in the 100m Fly followed by a Bronze in the 400m Free.

As the Championships drew to a close, Sharks grabbed another couple of medals with Tom winning Silver in the 50m Back and Morgan Matthews (12yrs) taking the Bronze in the 50m Breast.

All in all, it was a great two weekends of competition by Welshpool Sharks who between them won 5 Silvers & 7 Bronzes but also set a huge number of personal best times along the way.

Many swimmers achieved some huge gains on times set in competition just 8 weeks ago, the hard work at training is clearly paying dividend and it’s a good sign with the Club going into the East Clwyd League later this month as the current title holders.
