Presentation Evening

IMG_0628It was the Club’s Presentation Evening last night and amongst the many recipients of awards the most memorable was Bronwen Poole’s ‘Volunteer of the Year’ presented in recognition of her unstinting support to the Club for over 30 years.

Bronwen’s commitment to the Club is unsurpassed and she continues to help at weekly coaching sessions and regularly travels the length & breadth of Wales and England to officiate at swimming galas in her capacity as a Swim Wales qualified official.

Presented by Christine our retiring Treasurer, the award is well deserved and Bronwen’s unselfish commitment an inspiration to us all.

Amongst the swimmers, the trophy winners for 2015 included Morgan Bowen (Best Performance) for his butterfly which has culminated this year in his selection to represent Swim Wales whilst the Best Newcomer Award went to Dyfrig Jones. Keira McVeagh who has developed greatly this year deservedly received the Most Improved Award. The Club also recognized the commitment of its swimmers and this year’s Most Dedicated trophy went to Elain Owen for her continual hard work and effort at training and consequent much deserved improvement at competition.

The Swimmers Swimmer Awards, voted on by the swimmers themselves went to Jordan Lewis & Carwyn Owen.

Overall age group winners from the Club Gala contested a few weeks ago were Kimberley Vaughan & Jack Lewis (9yrs); Medi Lewis & Deiniol Owen (10/11); Aaliyah Robins & Tomos Weaver (12/13); Ellen Jones & Lloyd Davies (14/15) and Kate Jones & Billy Hunt (16yrs+).

The evening finished with a buffet and disco, a great fun event even if it did finish rather abruptly with the arrival of the Fire Brigade!

Swim Wales North Sub Regional Championships 2015

swnEntry has now closed to the Swim Wales North Sub Regional Championships 2015 on Saturday 5th & Sunday 6th December at Llandudno.

Entry fees are £4.50 per event.

Age groups are 9/10, 11, 12, 13, 14 & 15+ and age is as at 31 December 2015.

This is an excellent gala for all our swimmers to target with all strokes over 100 & 200, 50 Free and 200 IM plus other distances that aren’t often available including for 11yrs+ a 400, 800 (girls) & 1500 (boys) freestyle and a 400IM.

You can enter an event even if you’ve no official time to support your entry so it’s one of a few chances in the gala calendar where you can try something completely new and different. There are qualifying times – you need to be slower than the times listed – but all of our swimmers will be able to enter with only one or two being too fast in just their favoured events so plenty of choice for everyone and our older (11+) swimmers; why not challenge yourselves to a longer distance?

OFFICIALS – One condition of this meet is that we provide officials to support our entry (a minimum of two officials) so we’d be very grateful to hear from any of our qualified judges and our J1 trainees who are prepared to officiate for all or part of this gala.

DEADLINE FOR ENTRIES: Friday 6th November 2015.

The basic information is included on our entry form (attached below) but the full details can be viewed in the meet pack (also below).

Aquathlon Success

thGreat day for Sharks at the Tudor Grange Aquathlon at Solihull today.

A lovely modern leisure centre with an 8 lane pool surrounded by well kept parkland along with great weather provided a fantastic venue and a very well run event by Solihull Triathlon Club.

Three Sharks travelled across to the West Midlands to compete. First up was Phoebe Carter who led throughout to finish 1st in the girls T1 (9/10yrs) group.

In the next age group up, Deiniol Owen put in a great swim to leave the pool first but just lost out on the 1800m run finishing 3rd in the boys T2 (11-12yrs).

His elder brother Carwyn was the first out of the pool after a 300m swim in the boys T2 (13-14yrs) group and ran strongly throughout the 2400m run to finish a comfortable first.

Well done the three of you.
