Shrewsbury Open Meet – 17 & 18 October 2015

sascShrewsbury Swimming Club is holding a Level 3 Gala on Saturday 17th & Sunday 18th October 2015.

Please note it will be held at The Central Baths at Wolverhampton (WV1 4EG).

Both morning sessions will start with a warm-up at 8am before the first events start at 9am on both days. The afternoon sessions warm-up is at 1:30pm with a 2:15pm start. The time for the afternoon session may change but will not be any earlier than that notified here.

They expect to use the seating on both sides of the pool for spectators. However, if they find it is not all needed, a section may be open to swimmers. Otherwise, swimmers will be expected to base themselves around the pool and may bring collapsible chairs. Seating allocation diagram below.

Car parking at the venue will be free. There will be a bacon-butty/sausage bap van outside the building and a Costa coffee shop in the foyer.

If anyone needs to stay overnight, there is a Redwing Lodge just across the road.

An all-weekend programme will cost £5.

Age groups for both boys & girls will be 9yrs; 10/11yrs; 12/13yrs; 14/15yrs and 16+. Events include 50m, 100m & 200m in all strokes; 100m, 200m & 400m IM and a 400m Free. However, 9yr olds may not enter the 100m events or the 400m IM.

Our entry form is attached below. Please return completed forms with full payment to Kevin (on poolside) no later than 8pm on Monday 29 June 2015. The Club’s entry will be submitted later that night – this is a first come, first served gala so we need to get in early to secure places.

There’ll be a special guest present on Sunday afternoon – Calum Jarvis – World & Commonwealth medal winner and Welsh record holder who’ll be socialising during the afternoon session.

** REMINDER ** Summer Nationals – Entry Process

A quick reminder that the entry process for the summer nationals will open from midday this Wednesday 10th June for those included in the top 16 for each event.

There is now a link on the Swim Wales site that will as of tomorrow afternoon take you to the top 16 invitation list. The names of the top 16 can be viewed from tomorrow afternoon but entries won’t be possible until midday Wednesday.

For those who aren’t in the top 16 but who have the QTs the open entry process will start a week on Wednesday 17th June at 8am – the open entry process is on a first come, first served basis so if you’re interested in entering via the open route you really do need to be ready to act quickly next week when it opens.

I’ll be at most if not all training sessions this week and next week and will bring with me  all the information and a laptop so if you want to run through the entry process or check your swimmers times against the QTs or anything else, just come and ask.

Training Update

** Training Update **

Please note there will be no training this coming Sunday 7th June 2015 due to it clashing with the Cath Ankers Gala at Wrexham that same day where we have 27 swimmers competing and most of our coaching team are attending too.

Back to normal on Monday 8th June 2015.

Club Gala 2014 – Trophies

Our current set of trophies remains incomplete and many of those that have been returned are full with no room for further engraving.

The Committee are in the process of deciding how to proceed for 2015 and it’s likely we’ll purchase a complete new set in time for this year’s gala scheduled for September.

IMG_8897We’re fully aware of the unacceptable delay in getting trophies to the 2014 Winners but this week we’ve taken delivery of a set of mini-trophies.

Our 2014 Winners will retain these mini-trophies for ever more in recognition of the significant wait that they’ve ‘endured’ to receive their awards.

These are being handed out this week at training. A big well done to our 2014 Gala Winners and our sincerest apologies to you once again for the delay.

Swim Wales Summer Nationals

SWThe qualifying window has now closed for the Summer Nationals.

The 2015 Swim Wales Summer Open Meet (Summer Nationals) will be held at the Wales National Pool, Swansea from Thursday 23 to Wednesday 29 July 2015.

The meet will be open to all swimmers registered as members of Swim Wales, ASA, SASA or a competitor registered with one of the countries affiliated to FINA who meet the qualifying standard.

The event will be offered as guaranteed places to the 16 Welsh swimmers who have qualified via the qualification window which runs from 13 March to the 31 May and are not ranked in the top 24 swimmers eligible for the British Summer Championships.

This means that results from licensed long course competitions between 13th March and 31st May (plus ASA Regional Championships which take place in early June) will be used as the basis to form rankings from which those eligible to enter the summer meets will be identified.

Entry for those eligible will then be through two online systems which will become available as follows:

  1. Entry for Welsh swimmers ranked top 16 outside of the British Summer Championships (opens Wednesday 10 June at noon), and;
  2. Open entry with restricted eats on a first come first serve basis (opens Wednesday 17 June at 8am).

Both entry routes will close midday 30th June.

If anyone is interested in entering then all the details are now on the link below.

Please remember that you’ll need to enter your swimmer(s) yourself as we cannot do so for you as a Club.

The attached link should provide everything you need to know but if you have any questions then just ask and we’ll try and answer them for you.
